Yasuhiro Ishimoto
Akiko Moriyama

Born in San Francisco as the child of agricultural immigrants, he spent his childhood in Kochi from the age of three and went to the United States alone in 1939. He experienced the internment camps for Japanese Americans due to the outbreak of the Pacific War, studied photography at the "New Bauhaus" in Chicago, and made his debut in the United States. His representative works include "Katsura: Tradition and Creation in Japanese Architecture" and "Chicago, Chicago," and his photographs, which "surpass modernism," are breathtaking. A joint project of three museums, the "Yasuhiro Ishimoto Centennial Photo Exhibition" was held in 2020.
This book is a private edition published to coincide with the 10th anniversary of Ishimoto's death, revising and retitling "Yasuhiro Ishimoto: Thinking Through Photography" (Musashino Art University Publishing).
